BEFORE

Existing Conditions

The Terrebonne General Medical Center planned a bank stabilization and beautification project along Bayou Terrebonne in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana. The plan included installation of a 100 ft steel arch pedestrian bridge across Bayou Terrebonne from East Main Street to East Park Avenue. It also included the installation of a new timber bulkhead, boardwalk, and concrete mats along East Main Street for bank stabilization.

AFTER

Solution

The 700 feet of existing timber bulkhead were removed prior to project start. The bank was graded, and a geotextile material was placed on top of the grade. A 1,045 linear foot Submar articulating concrete mat system was installed on the bank along East Main Street. All edges of the mat system were toed into anchor and flank trenches that were backfilled with clay. 1,045 feet of new timber bulkhead were installed. Finally, riprap was installed along the East Park Avenue bank of the bayou and around the bridge concrete abutments for erosion control.
