Prevent erosion issues before they start—reach out to Submar today!
Holly Fork Creek
Morehead, Kentucky
Existing Conditions
Holly Creek crosses a 30” gas transmission pipeline at nearly a 45° angle. The pipeline has a concrete cap poured on top to provide cover. The creek bed has degraded downstream of the pipeline, and the pipeline is exposed along the left bank. The concrete slab is resting on the pipeline. The creek bed is composed of rock, and the banks are rocky soil. Rock material and large debris flow down the creek and over the pipeline on a regular basis.
Solution
The concrete cap was removed and replaced with a system of articulating concrete mats. The creek banks were graded back to a stable slope. The mats were anchored into the rock bed upstream of the pipeline.
This project was installed in 2003. The “AFTER” photo was taken in 2023.
