Project Memories: Conroe, Texas

Check out this time-lapse video of a lengthy construction project we started in January 2020 and completed in March 2020.

Background: Several pipelines cross a river in Conroe, Texas. A sandpit had expanded over time, and heavy flow had degraded the bed of the channel and eroded the banks, exposing and suspending the pipelines.
Submar’s Solution: Submar first surveyed the site in 2016. After Hurricane Harvey increased the erosion in this area, our team re-surveyed the site’s conditions to prepare an erosion control solution to cover and protect the pipelines. Our construction crew dewatered the site and then removed the designated pipeline supports. The crew then installed culverts to convey flow away from the pipelines. Sheet pile walls were installed to assist in retaining soils, and the project site was graded to create uniform contours. The crew then sandblasted and recoated the pipelines to restore their integrity. After compacting fill and grading the site, the crew installed a system of Submar articulating concrete revetment mattresses to armor the pipelines. Riprap was installed on the banks to prevent further lateral migration, and the disturbed areas of the site were graded and restored. Erosion control blanket was placed on the banks as part of Best Management Practices (BMPs).
